Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas provide a time for us to reflect back on that in which we are thankful. Unfortunately, as the days get colder and shorter, there are thousands within our community that are unable to provide their families with a warm meal. In fact, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee estimates they feed between 40,000 to 50,000 people per month – and this number has only increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. When you take the population of Kingsport, TN, which is roughly 55,000, it puts the issue of food insecurity into perspective.
In an effort to help our local community and those who might be struggling to make ends meet, Red Door Agency will be conducting a Food Drive from November 30th to January 31st. We encourage anyone to drop off any of the items listed below (every bit helps!), to our office located at 136 W. Main Street, Kingsport, TN. We will be open from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. These donations will go directly to Second Harvest here in Kingsport, TN and be distributed to the surrounding eight counties they serve.
We know that we can’t make a difference alone, so we hope you will join us in helping our fellow East Tennesseans and Southwest Virginians through the holidays. If you have any questions regarding the Food Drive, please contact us at: 423-541-0256.
